Qld: Next GG an outstanding role model, says Bligh

Queensland Premier ANNA BLIGH says Australia's next governor general is an outstanding
role model for women and children.

Prime Minister KEVIN RUDD has announced 65-year-old Queensland Governor QUENTIN BRYCE
will be appointed Australia's first female governor general after the resignation of Major
General MICHAEL JEFFERY.

Major General Jeffery's current term is due to expire next month.

Ms BLIGH says QUENTIN BRYCE is an outstanding role model .. and passionate advocate
for the rights of women and children to a better life.

Ms BLIGH has also paid tribute to Ms BRYCE'S tireless work as governor of Queensland
.. a position she has held for almost five years.

Ms BLIGH said she will immediately begin considerations for Ms BRYCE'S replacement
.. with the appointment subject to approval from the Queen.
