Qld: State's holiday road toll jumps to seven

Two people have died in an horrific accident in central Queensland this morning ..

bringing the state's holiday road toll to seven.

A furniture truck and a sedan collied head-on on the Bruce Highway near Princhester
.. south of Marlborough .. at about 7am.

Police say the male driver of the sedan and a female passenger died at the scene.

A dog travelling in the vehicle also died.

The male driver of the truck and his male passenger were transported to the Rockhampton
Base Hospital for observation.

Emergency crews have closed all southbound and northbound lanes of the highway while
they clear the area.

The highway will remain closed for several hours and motorists are advised to delay
their trip through the area.

It takes the state's holiday road toll to seven.

Two people died in separate motorbike accidents on Christmas Day.

A man also died on Saturday in Rockhampton when his vehicle left the road and struck
a tree .. and two more people died in separate accidents on Friday.

Police are urging motorists to slow down and avoid taking risks .. especially on wet
and slippery roads.
