THE FRENZIED WORLD OF POLITICS BY B. JAY COOPER.(MAIN)

WASHINGTON -- OK, let me get this straight. A wealthy California Republican bankrolled a campaign to recall the duly elected governor and when he succeeded, he exited the race he thought he had bought because he didn't have a chance to win.

And, in the last two weeks, the media have been in a frenzy because the leading candidates for two of the top three political jobs in America are guys they never would have bet on a year ago -- Howard Dean for president and Arnold Schwarzenegger for governor of California.

Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio? Scratch that. If DiMag were alive someone would be pushing a write-in campaign for him. Scratch that, too. Someone …
