SA: Labor wants US trade office in Washington
The South Australian Opposition has called on the state government to set up a new
trade office for the United States in or near Washington.
Opposition leader MIKE RANN says SA has more trade offices than other states, but no
presence in the US.
Mr RANN says he stated earlier this year that Labor would close two of the Asian offices
-- one in China and one in Indonesia -- and would open an office in the United States.
And he says just days later, the government adopted that policy.
Mr RANN says he's now calling on the government to place the new US office in or near
the US capital, which is surrounded by booming defence, information technology and bio-technology
industries.
