Vic; Biotech company share soar after medical dinner
The share price of Melbourne biotechnology company, Virax Holdings, soared after it
was revealed prematurely that a consortium, of which it was a part, won a $30 million
US contract.
The Age newspaper says Health Minister MICHAEL WOOLDRIDGE told the annual Australian
Society of Medical Research dinner in Melbourne last June that an Australian consortium
had won the contract, 20 days before the formal announcement on the stock exchange.
Virax Holdings shares jumped 50 per cent from 90 cents to $1.39 during this 20 day period.
More than 700 doctors, scientists, investors and others - including two Age journalists
- attended the Melbourne dinner on June 8.
