Magazine features casino's cameras

The security system installed at The Greenbrier Resort's $80million underground casino is featured in the April issue ofCommercial Building Products, a magazine for architects, contractorsand owners in commercial construction.

The casino's system leverages cutting-edge, Internet protocol-based networking technology "currently used in only a handful ofcasinos in the country," the magazine said.

It was a challenging job because the system had to meet the WestVirginia Lottery's stringent regulations related to camera coverageand functionality. There couldn't be any blind spots.

In addition, the system had to preserve the building'sarchitectural beauty and integrity. "Everything that was done withthe existing building, anything that was added, you had to take intoaccount how the building looked," Michael Tetreault, surveillancemanager, told the magazine. For example, placing cameras outside thefront entrance would detract from the look of the building socameras were placed on the roof, out of view.

About a third of the system's cameras are pan-tilt-zoom cameras. There's a video storage system. All video recording is redundant sonothing is lost if a hard drive crashes. The system was designed soThe Greenbrier's security department can use it to monitor otherareas of the resort.
